Yasmin Corrigan – ‘No snow in Soho’ Photo Shoot
On a beautifully clear and chilly evening in November I met up with Yasmin Corrigan in Soho for what became one of my favourite shoots of the year.
I first heard Yasmin’s music at one of the Live Expressions nights in Upstairs at the Ritzy in Brixton. I was instantly drawn to her melodic songs, delivered with such a wonderfully captivating voice. Naturally, I was very excited when she contacted me to capture some photos to accompany her Christmas song release, ‘No snow in Soho’.
London offers many possibilities for backdrops, so it was incredibly helpful that Yasmin had a very clear vision of she wanted to convey in the images. Prior to meeting we shared ideas on a mood board and possible approaches in terms of outfits and styles. With any outside location shoot I find having a few specific spots in mind is a good idea, as well as being flexible. The perfect scene can sometimes just reveal itself during a shoot.

Using three planned locations, and simple costume adjustments, we managed to capture some wonderful images to choose for the final promotional shots. Yasmin was a joy to work with, responding so well to direction and the bustle of London around us. Our final spot being a wine bar was definitely a good idea. It felt like a little celebration at the end of the shoot.

One of the aspects of this project that really made it fun was the collaborative postproduction creativity. Following my initial edit and selection, we were able do our fine tuning in Photoshop to produce an image that delivered the style and mood that Yasmin was looking for to accompany her new song.
Speaking of which, the song is now available to listen to on Spotify. Head to the link to listen to this beautiful, melancholic Christmas song. Wonderful work Yasmin.
