The Photography Squad

There are three members in The Photography Squad, Ann-Marie and Mark who also run the MAAN Studios and create wonderful images as LDN Photography – and myself (currently shooting for Brighton and Hove News) – Our varied experience allows us to support our workshop participants in different aspects of photography, and we also enjoy learning from others’ input as well. Photography is an ongoing education and it is so inspiring experiencing the eclectic aesthetics that are produced in these workshops.

Since the formation of The Photography Squad just a few short years ago we have enjoyed collaborating on several projects. These have involved studio sessions, location shoots and live performance photography. Our main goal is to to create an environment of sharing skills in a positive and creative way. The Gig Photography Workshops that we organise have become one of my favourite events. These involve working closely with a band to initially create images in Ann-Marie and Mark’s beautiful studio in Streatham MAAN Studios – this gives us a great opportunity to get to know the musicians and their musical journey. We then schedule the session in the iconic venue in Balham The Bedford for the live music photography workshop – an absolutely beautiful setting for performance photography.

Each workshop begins with a powerpoint presentation in the ballroom prior to going to the main room to take photos of the band performing exclusively for the photographers. This allows for freedom of movement so that our workshop participants don’t have to worry about blocking the audience or access to the room to frame images. We are also fortunate in having an excellent light engineer who always mixes up the lighting to create a variety of experiences. We include a feedback session halfway though the evening, followed by a second performance session and fun group photos to conclude. We do encourage the bands to invite friends along to add to the energy in the room.

SOAKED

Our next workshop is just over a week away on Sunday 9th February and we are very excited to be featuring Punk Trio SOAKED – a high energy, enigmatic band who will provide an excellent musical experience as well perfect opportunities for capturing iconic performance photos.
